Writing The Short Play

with Don Cook

Over the past couple decades, the short play – especially the ten-minute play – has become the most-produced genre in theatre. The reason for this popularity is simple: short plays are easier to produce and require less investment by playwright, cast and production company.

Although most of the elements of a short play are the same as those in a full-length script, everything is condensed -- dialog has as few words as possible, there is virtually no exposition, and although the plot-line still has a beginning, middle and end, the story starts later, moves faster and ends quicker. So whether you are a newcomer to play-writing or an old hand, this workshop will help you cultivate skills that can be applied to scripts of any length. At the end of the ten-week course, participants can choose to showcase their scripts in an invited-audience performance & reception. And that’s your cue to sign up at the Warehouse PAC.
